This work consists of collages created on two pages taken from a book. The title of this piece, Do You Suppose references text on one of the pages. The words are obscured, but still visible. The definition of the word suppose is “to assume that something is the case on the basis of evidence or probability but without proof or certain knowledge.” The viewer can consider the question and the art, leaving both open to many interpretations.

In this piece, fragments of maps, diagrams, and wrapping paper reference a time in the past. Combined with color and marks made with paint, ink, and pencil, they depict a contemporary landscape of the imagination.

In this artwork, the figure is turned away from the viewer, unaware of being observed. The figure is almost ready to move forward, take a new path, or possibly to fly.

In this imaginary galaxy, fragments of diagrams are juxtaposed with honeycombs and flowers. Nothing is contained or structured. The word measure can also refer to the notes and rests between bar lines on a musical staff. I tried to express a feeling of limitless energy in this artwork.

This title refers to the cycling of materials as I make my art. I am drawn to maps, diagrams, lace, cloth, and circular shapes. By revisiting these materials, I hope to explore them in new ways.

The title of this portrait references my art process. One meaning of the word refine is “to improve by making small changes, in particular by introducing subtleties or distinctions.” When working, I constantly make small changes, adding a line or shifting a tiny scrap of paper until the collage is finished.

A few years ago my friend Molly and I packed up our painting supplies and drove to a park about 30 minutes away from where we live. While there, I drew the lake, fields, and trees. When I was back home in my studio the painting became more surreal, as I changed trees into mountains, and added spheres and the small figure. The title is about how the experience of traveling can impact your perspective.

I am interested in how people experience and interact with the natural world. In this work I used many re-purposed materials, including diagrams, embroidery patterns, calligraphy, and a map. The fragments are combined into an image of a bird flying in an imaginary environment. The collage also contains images that allude to communication, such as a pencil and a postage stamp. In the past, homing pigeons were used to deliver messages.  In today’s world of immediate and instant communication, the image of a bird in flight reflects the constancy of nature.
